Todd Carty was saved by the public vote again on Dancing On Ice - despite charting the worst score of the night.

Instead, children's TV presenter Michael Underwood was given his marching orders after facing the skate-off with Melinda Messenger.

Former EastEnders star Todd was awarded 7.5 out of a possible 30 - two points lower than his score last week when he lost control and went hurtling off the ice rink into the wings.

This week, he danced to The Police hit song Every Breath You Take with skating partner Susie Lipanova - but failed to impress the judging panel.

He ended his dance by writhing across the ice on his back in truly shambolic style.

His disastrous performance last week has been seen by more than one million people on YouTube and he has been dubbed the John Sergeant of the series after consistently receiving low scores.

Judge Karen Barber told him afterwards: 'I want to encourage you Todd. But there's not a lot of skating to mark, but what there is is entertainment value.'

But in the face of tough criticism from the the panel, Todd survived and will now skate again next week.

Following the skate-off between Melinda and Michael, judges Karen and Nicky Slater voted to save Michael. Jason Gardiner and Ruthie Henshall chose to save Melinda and Robin Cousins then gave the former glamour model a third vote.

Mentor Jayne Torvill praised her for improving each week - a remark which was largely echoed by the judging panel.

Lambert was checked by a physiotherapist following the incident and the pair later danced to Prince's Kiss and were awarded 18.5 points, beating his previous best score of 17.

After the dance Lambert said she was a 'tough cookie' and was feeling fine now.

Michael himself is no stranger to injury. The 33-year-old was a contestant in last year's show but had to leave in the early stages after breaking his ankle.

Undercover reporter Donal MacIntyre danced to the Blues Brothers upbeat track Everybody Needs Somebody with partner Florentine Houdiniere.

Dressed in a black and silver pin-stripped suit, he received 16 points from the panel, despite falling over during his dance.

He was also criticised by judge Jason for dancing like a 'tiny tot' and for being out of time - but Gardiner was shouted down by the audience as he made his barbed comments.

Coleen Nolan performed to her Nolan Sisters hit, I'm In The Mood For Dancing, trussed up in a low-cut turquoise outfit, and became the first contestant to dance to her own song.

She was awarded 16 points for her performance with skating partner Stuart Widdall.

Former rugby player Ellery Hanley received the same score as last week - 16 - after his performance to U2's With Or Without You with partner Frankie Poultney.

Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon and Matt Evers shimmied to Katy Perry's hit song Hot 'n' Cold.

Zoe looked breathtaking in a silver leotard and was awarded her best score yet of 20.

It was the first time the 20-year-old had shown a weakness on the ice and judge Jason was keen to point this out, despite the rest of the panel praising Ray's efforts.

Melinda was first to perform, dressed in stunning ruffled red costume.

She danced to the Macarena with skating partner Fred Palascak and was awarded a respectable score of 16.5.

The celebrities were required to incorporate another new move into their performances this week - the pair spiral.

It involved both the contestant and skating partner gliding on one foot while raising the free leg above hip level.

Christopher Dean was also back on the ice in force with Jayne Torvill after being declared fit enough to skate again following his shoulder injury which has seen him out of the rink for the first few weeks of the show.
