But perhaps the thought of hundreds of people watching in action left the actor feeling a bit of stage fright.
The Californian actor and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens were flown Down Under by Oakley sunglasses to raise awareness for their OneSight Foundation's Learn-To-Surf programme.
While Hugdens kept a low-profile in the nearby North Bondi Italian restaurant, Efron was driven on to the beach in a golf buggy.

Dressed in a red Oakley wetsuit, Efron was overwhelmed by the crowds of screaming girls clambering for a photo or autograph with the heart-throb.
While Efron was happy to wade into the sea, he declined to demonstrate his surfing skills.
He was flanked by pro-surfers Layne Beachley and Tom Whitaker and a few hand-picked youngsters who were learning to surf.

Instead of 'hanging 10', Efron was happy to play teacher as he helped some of the teenagers onto the surf boards.
Sydney local Craig Gill said his four-year-old daughter Petal was smitten with the teen idol.
He told MSN Australia: 'She's the only one that got a kiss. We just happened to come down, and she's the biggest fan of Zac.'

Efron and Hudgens, who have been dating for four years, arrived in Australia over the weekend to spend Valentine's Day together.
During their time in the Harbour City, they have been spotted dining at McDonald's in Circular Quay and shopping at the Oakley store.

I've always been a fan of Oakley Sunglasses - they're stylish, functional and durable. No wonder many Hollywood celebs endorse the brand. BTW, Zac's shades look like the Wayfarers from Ray Ban.
