Carol Vorderman

She may have started the day sporting a sober white shirt and grey pinafore to talk about her online maths school.

But, hours later, during her stint on ITV1’s bawdy and often raucous talk show Loose Women, Carol Vorderman opted for a more eye-catching outfit.

The 49-year-old had looked severe in her morning outfit to discuss The Maths Factor, a website aimed at helping parents and children with the subject.

The site features video instruction, music and games, as well as classes costing £14.99 a month.

The star, who was initially interviewed by BBC Breakfast presenters Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams, added some glamour to her school mistress look by wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin heels.

By the afternoon she had vamped her look up even more by changing into a tight teal number which showed off her curves.

Miss Vorderman recently admitted that her fuller figure had long been a source of embarrassment and her nickname at home was ‘big bum’ but revealed she had learned to make the best of her body.

She is a fan of Victoria Beckhams’s designs, which costs thousands but have become a favourite with shapely celebrities wanting to make the best of their hour glass frame – such as Jennifer Lopez, Katherine Jenkins and Elle Macpherson.

The former Countdown presenter said: ‘At home I am known as the rather less glamorous 'Big Bum'. We all have, in my family, what we call the 'Vorderman bottom' - a sticky out, bigger-than-normal, signature, of the rear variety.

'The truth is, by my age - 50 [this year] - you learn to put up with what you've got and what you can't really alter.

'I believe that as you get older, you become less concerned about looks. I see far too many young women fretting about their imperfections, not knowing what delights nature will thrust upon them as the mileometer clicks on.’

Miss Vorderman, who chairs a maths taskforce for the Conservative Party, said: 'I want children to be the very best they can be with numbers and mathematics, and developing a love of the subject is part of everything we do.

'We have built technology so that children will learn at their own pace.
'As a mum, I realise how hard it can be for parents to know exactly what to do to encourage children with maths, so we provide games for each precise piece of learning to print out and play.

'I also explain to parents all of the new numeracy methods taught in schools to help with school homework.'

Miss Vorderman announced she was leaving the Countdown in 2008 after 26 years, amid claims she had been told to take a 90 per cent pay cut.

Ratings for the show, however, have plummeted by more than half from 1.3million when Miss Riley took over last January with new host Jeff Stelling.
