The triumphant run of James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar continues from the box office to award functions. The sci-fi thriller won the Best Motion Picture (drama) at the 67th Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The movie had tough competition from George Clooney’s critically acclaimed film ‘Up in the Air’, the Iraq drama ‘The Hurt Locker’, Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and the gritty thriller ‘Precious’.

James Cameron also won the Best Director award for ‘Avatar’, winning out over his ex wife Kathryn Bigelow, nominated for ‘The Hurt Locker’.

Accepting the award, Cameron said: “This is best job in the world, it really is. ‘Avatar’ asks us to see that everything is connected, all human beings to each other and us to the Earth.”

Incidentally, the feeling of oneness was quite apparent at the ceremony because many stars wore yellow, blue and red ribbons to show their support for the victims of Haiti earthquake.

The Golden Globes are seen as precursors to Oscars. Among the other winners of the evening were:

Best Actress Comedy - Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia)
