Sharron Davies

She's struggled with injury throughout the series, but it just wasn't a good enough excuse in the end as Sharron Davies was voted off Dancing On Ice.

The former Olympic swimmer blamed injuries picked up during her swimming career for her lacklustre performances over the past few weeks, and controversially she decided against using the song chosen by Torvill and Dean.

Miss Davies took it upon herself to overrule the faster paced song that had been chosen in order to test her, deciding instead for a slower number that she felt more comfortable with.

But the decision ultimately led to her departure from the show, after she ended up in the skate off with Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack.

After being voted off unanimously by the judging panel, Sharron told host Phillip Schofield: 'I had the best partner I could wish for, I want to thank everyone involved.

'The atmosphere backstage has been electric. I will certainly not be hanging up my skates, I'll be going down to Swindon ice rink when I can.'

This week's required element was an individual opening and closing position with the celebrities expected to come up with their own original start and finish.

First up was Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson sporting a huge mohawk hairstyle as he danced to Ever Fallen In Love? by the Buzzcocks.

With partner Brianne Delcourt trussed up in a leopard print bikini, ripped tights and suspenders this was a sizzling routine punctuated by plenty of punk attitude.

Saucy: Brianne Delcourt wore a revealing leopard print bikini and ripped tight and suspenders for the performance

The couple started off by crawling along the ice towards one another before launching into their routine.

However Kieron almost tripped over while jumping backwards and the whole dance was a little clunky and, although fast paced, it lacked confidence.

In the end the couple picked up a good score of 19.5 from the judging panel.

Happiness: The Hollyoaks actor and his partner are all smiles as they receive a score of 19.5 from the judging panel

Karen commented: 'Great performance, you brought punk to the ice. It was definitely your strongest performance so far.'

Jason was also full of praise, telling Kieron: 'Your opening and end were very creative, but you have to watch the lifts, they're very heavy. Watch out when you're coming out of the lifts.'

Angela Rippon appeared to have been taken on a trip down memory lane by the punk-influenced routine, saying: 'That took me back to my youth, I had a boyfriend with hair just like that. You're getting my gold star tonight. For someone who admitted they'd never skated before, to get to the stage you're at now is a great achievement.'

Sharron and Pavel

Revolt: Sharron Davies went against the song choice of Jane Torvil and Christopher Dean for her routine

Sharron and Pavel

Slowed down: The former Olympic swimmer and her partner Pavel Aubrecht performed a more considered routine to the one Torvil and Dean expected

Following Kieron was Sharron Davies who controversially rejected Torvil and Dean's song choice, which was intended to push her to her limits.

But, unsatisfied with the faster pace of song, she changed the song and routine - using Stay by Sweetbox for a slower, and some might say easier routine.

Starting off in a crouching position, she took a fall of faith into partner Pavel Aubrecht's arms as the routine began.

Injuries: Sharron had complained that her back and shoulder pain inhibited her ability to perform fast paced routines

Including several daring lifts into their dance, Sharron appeared comfortable despite her recurring shoulder and back injuries.

Finishing off with an amazing Statue Of Liberty pose, the routine landed the former swimmer with a total score of 16 from the judges.

Nicky told her: 'You did very well, there was a consistent speed, everything worked overall. But there were no surprises.'

Daniella and Matthew

Comedy: Daniella Westbrook and Matthew Gonzalez performed a hilarious routine to You Don't Have To Say You Love Me by Dusty Springfield

Daniella and Matthew

Well executed: The performance received high praise from all of the judging panel

Emma added: 'Out of everyone I thought you'd be the most competitve. This was like déjà vu, you need to put more into it. If you make it through to next week I would strongly advise you should listen to Chris and Jane.'

Daniella Westbrook followed Sharron's routine with a brilliant performance that had the studio audience applauding before she'd even finished skating.

She put her acting skills to good use in a comedy-based routine set to You Don't Have To Say You Love Me by Dusty Springfield.

Daniella and Matthew

No fear: Daniella was initially worried by some of the moves the couple pulled off but she showed no signs of fear once she was on the ice

Daniella and Matthew

Drama: The former EastEnders actress put her acting skills to good use during the routine

Basing their dance on characters - Daniella the desperate lady who wants to win over her partner Matthew Gonzalez - the routine kicked off with the former EastEnders actress leaping on to Matthew.

Before they went into a 60s-inspired performance with Daniella pulling plenty of hilarous faces and dramatic actions, together with some brilliant skating.

Finishing with a potentially dangerous Float Spin, which had a slight hiccup as Matthew had trouble getting Daniella off the ground.

Daniella and Matthew

Dangerous: The potential for injury was at its highest when Daniella was swung around just inches from the ice in a float spin move

But the judging panel were very impressed, marking the couple 24.

Angela Rippon told them: 'I absolutely loved it, it told a story. It was graceful and elegant throughout. Great technique, good skating.'

Nicky Slater added: 'You were covering the ice well. Overall super, a superb performance.'

Danny and Frankie

Determination: Danny Young hit the ice with a renewed zeal after ending up in the skate off during last week's show

Danny and Frankie

In a spin: The 60s-inspired routine included plenty of Jive-esque moves

And Jason Gardinder was just as pleased with the performance, he said: 'You've improved the most, you've got the attitude, you give everything a go. It was, at times, a bit psychotic, without the slight mistake it would've been a 5.5 it was that good.'

Danny Young was next on the ice with a routine set to 60s song Sherry, by Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons.

With partner Frankie Poultney wearing a white skirt with red polka dots and a red top, Danny sported a quiff and a matching tight red top.

Danny and Frankie

Energetic: The Coronation Street actor threw himself into the routine and seemed to really enjoy himself

Danny and Frankie

Equal: The couple received the same score as they did on last week's show

Kicking off with his partner on his back, the performance included plenty of 60s style moves, although he was pretty wooden.

Incorporating a swing lift, and a daring venetian roll down for the close, this was an inconsistent routine that landed the Coronation Street actor with a final score of 17 once again.

Nicky, who gave the lowest score out of all the judges, told Danny: 'I hate giving you a low mark, but was not good for me. You're not skating out, I know you can do it. Stop being so contained!'

Hayley and Daniel

Kick off: Hayley Tamaddon and her partner Daniel Whitson started off their routine by sitting on the judging panel's desk

Hayley and Daniel

Professional: The Emmerdale actress has been named as 'the one to beat' by Christopher Dean after achieving the highest score of the series so far twice

While Emma Bunton said she was impressed with the routine, telling the couple: 'That was strong, you've taken our criticism on board. That cheeky chappy is coming back.'

Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon was next on the ice, and according to Christopher Dean was the "one to beat" in the competition.

Dancing to Get Happy by Ella Fitzgerald Hayley and partner Daniel Whiston started off sitting on the judges' desk before launching into a brilliant routine.

Hayley and Daniel

Excellent: Although she was under pressure following her stunning performance last week Hayley was relaxed and determined on the ice

The performance included a back crawl, lots of well executed steps and a very daring magic carpet ride which saw Daniel swing Hayley around while spinning her at the same time.

However, a missed step meant she failed to top her high score of last week.

Achieving a score of 26 again Hayley received a rapturous reception from the judging panel, who criticised her hiccup.

Emily and Fred

Flirtatious: Emily was encouraged to be raunchy and sexy during the routine

Emily and Fred

Reclining: The actress started off by laying on her partner Fred Palascak's back

Jason Gardiner, who marked the actress lower that fellow contestant Daniela Westbrook, said: 'Daniella didn't mess up, Hayley did. I score you harder and tougher because I know we can get more out of you.'

While Karen added: 'I dropped a .5 because you missed a step. It proves that it can happen just like that.'

Inbetweeners star Emily Atack followed Hayley's scintillating performance with a routine backed by X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's hit Bad Boys.

Emily and Fred

Tough: Emily Atack foudn it hard to convey her sex kitten character until Alexandra Burke gave her some advice during rehearsals

Emily and Fred

On a high: The Inbetweeners actress appeared comfortable with some of the daring lifts performed during her routine

However, unable to convey the sex kitten role she had hoped to, Emily had trouble with the routine in rehearsals.

That was until Alexandra Burke was enlisted to give her some advice on getting the attitude across in her dance moves.

Wearing a dazzling pink mini dress with an asymetric hemline, she began the routine reclining onto her partner Fred Palascak's back.

Gary and Maria

Emotional: Gary Lucy's performance was accompanied by the song What About Now? by Chris Laughtry

Gary and Maria

Strong: Despite a worrying knee injury Gary performed well during his time on the ice throwing partner Maria Filippov around with ease

Combining a flirty attitude with some difficult maneuvers, which included a hair-raising table top lift - with Fred holding Emily above his head - it seemed the actress would get a higher mark this week than she did last week.

And she did, receiving 17.5 points from the judges who were, mostly, full of praise.

Karen Barber told her: 'That was your best routine so far, you brought attitude to the ice. You're getting there slowly but surely.'

Gary and Maria

Result: The couple received a high score from the judging panel who were impressed with the entire dance

Angela Rippon said: 'That was an impressive performance. But, even though you were dancing to Bad Boys, you were too much of a good girl. I wanted to see you be more sexy and more raunchy.'

The ever acidic Jason Gardiner, who had been quite pleasant for most of the evening, seemingly saved his venom for Emily.

He told her: 'There wasn't enough raunch or flirting, at one point you looked like a log rolling off into water. It was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. You haven't improved at all.'

Mikey and Melanie

Howdy pard': Mikey Graham took on the role of a cowboy for his Wild West inspired routine

Mikey and Melanie

Comfortable: The Boyzone star appeared relaxed during the routine which was set to Ring Of Fire by Johnny Cash

Gary Lucy has been improving consistently throughout the series, however a sprained ligament picked up during rehearsals this week left him in danger of failing to match his previous week's performances.

But, with an emotional routine set to Chris Daughty's What About Now?, the former Hollyoaks actor was bound to impress the judges.

The dance was based on the break up of a couple, with the star and his partner Maria Filippov really pushing themselves to pull off some impressive moves including an angel lift and a mind-boggling wrist ripper into a rotating fish lift.

Mikey and Melanie

Praise: Judge Jason Gardiner said Mikey was happy being idiotic on the ice and uninhibited

Mikey and Melanie

High there: Mikey and Melanie performed two consecutive gazelle leaps during the routine

And the hard work paid off with the couple being awarded 22.5 points, their highest of the series so far.

Spice Girl Emma Bunton told them: 'That was smooth and strong, I love the way you have no problems at all throwing Maria around! You told a story and I believed it. And Gary... you were quite sexy tonight.'

While Nicky Slater was slightly critical: 'You're attacking the skating, but it's not consistent, there were a few wobbles. However, you're stepping up every week.'

Boyzone star Mikey Graham followed Gary Lucy with a Wild West themed routine, set to the classic Ring Of Fire by Johnny Cash.

With the aid of line dancing lesson with partner Melanie Lambert, the Irish singer took to his performance with plenty of energy and vigour.

Although he stuttered slightly, and was a little clunky throughout he clearly enjoyed the dancing and managed to pull off two gazelle lifts and an amusing lasoo move amongst others in what was an entertaining turn on the ice.

He was given a score of 18.5, equalling his total from last week.

Angela Rippon faced the wrath of the audience as she explained why she'd given Mikey such a low score.

She said: 'I'd have liked you to have give more. There wasn't enough "yee-ha". It was a lacklustre performance, I wanted to see more character.'

But Karen Barber objected to Miss Rippon's criticism, she told the couple: 'That was a fun routine, it showed personality, but you have to up your game a bit.'

Jason Gardiner was surprisingly full of praise, he said: 'You're not afraid to be idiotic on the ice, you have fun and you're uninhibited. But you lose focus at times, I can see it when your thought process catches up with you.'
