Cheryl Cole's brother, Andrew Tweedy, has been arrested following an armed robbery in North Tyneside, it was revealed.
The unemployed 29-year-old was among nine people held following a raid on a post office in Longbenton on Monday, during which two men held up the premises with a gun and a machete.
The X Factor judge is thought to be 'in shock' over the news.
Northumbria Police said they could not reveal the identity of the arrested people but a source confirmed that Tweedy, a convicted criminal, was one of those being held for questioning.
The force said three men and a woman remained in custody while five other men had been released on police bail.

The raiders struck at the Hailsham Avenue Post Office at around 4pm and escaped with the shop takings.
No one was hurt in the incident. Two women customers fled to a nearby shop.
Priya Mishra, who runs the shop, told The Sun: 'One ran into the back and hid. Another started saying something I couldn't understand. She was in shock.'
Tweedy has described himself in the past as 'the black sheep' of his close-knit family.
His sister, who has become a national treasure, said in an interview last year that she hoped fatherhood would help her older brother change his ways.
'I haven't actually spoken to him for a while, but he's got a baby and I'm hoping that will be his turning point,' she said.

He once angered Cheryl, 26, by giving an interview to a national newspaper about their impoverished upbringing.
In a previous interview, Tweedy said: 'Cheryl wants to help me but I'm too far gone. I know I'm breaking her heart but I'm not strong enough to sort myself out.
'She says she will never give up on me.'
Cheryl's management said the singer had 'no comment' to make on the matter.
