In fact, his romance appeared to be motoring along nicely as Pussycat Doll girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger joined him trackside in Turkey today.
Perhaps he was hoping some of her luck would rub off on him just days after the 30-year-old singer clinched the title of U.S. Dancing With The Stars champion.

Hamilton qualified in second place behind Mark Webber but will hoping to go one better tomorrow to earn another trophy to go alongside the glittering disco ball his girlfriend was awarded.
Nicole, who was dressed casually in thongs and a cream summery dress, is expected to be cheering her boyfriend on at tomorrow's Grand Prix.
Like fellow Formula 1 couple Jenson Button and Japanese lingerie model Jessica Michibata - who announced their split this week - Nicole and Lewis know all too well the pressures of keeping up a long-distance relationship.

They broke up in January to concentrate on their careers, but reunited just weeks later.
Button, who will also race in tomorrow's Turkish Grand Prix, dated Jessica for 18 months, but finished with her following the Monaco Grand Prix.
Jessica had flown out to support 30-year-old Jenson at all of his races this season, watching his wins in Australia and China.
But despite her being quite the model girlfriend, Jenson struggled making the regular visits to her base in Tokyo.
Jenson's spokesman told MailOnline: 'I can confirm that Jenson and Jessica have split up.'

A source told The Sun: 'Jenson had a great time with Jessica and it looked like things were moving in the right direction. But the logistic took their toll.
'Just over a week ago Jenson reluctantly decided that his racing must maintain priority. There is no one else involved.'
