They say there is many a true word is spoken in jest.
But here's hoping that doesn't apply to Russell Brand's latest comments - for Katy Perry's sake.
The 35-year-old British comedian joked that her acting was so 'atrocious' that her scenes were cut from his new film, Get Him to the Greek.
The 35-year-old British comedian is the star of the new movie but - in an interview with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest - he says that Perry's cameo role ended up on the cutting room floor because of her poor performance.
He's a joker: Russell Brand, pictured here celebrating his birthday in LA on Friday, called Katy Perry's acting 'atrocious'
In an appearance on the KIIS FM breakfast radio show, Brand said: 'We cut it out Ryan because her acting was so atrocious that it ruined the film. It ruined it.
'It just made the film boring and rubbish.'
Perry, who starred as herself, filmed the part back in September before she officially started dating Brand.
He has previously said the love-scene between the pair has been dropped because it was 'too cheesy'.
When asked if his wife-to-be would be listening to him while he made his comments, the comedian joked: "I kick her out of bed.
Rocking out: In Get Him to the Greek - the sequel to Brand's hit Forgetting Sarah Marshall - he reprises his role as Aldous Snow
'I don't let her sleep in the bed with me. She's too much trouble.'
Brand also laughed at Perry's recent description of him.
In a recent interview on Seacrest's breakfast radio show she compared Brand to a host of well-known people, including serial killer Charles Manson.
Perry, 25, said: 'To me he's like Oscar Wilde meets Dudley Moore, meets Jim Morrison, meets a little Elvis Presley, meets Charles Manson.'
Laughing off the comparison Brand said: 'There's the girl I'm going to marry. She compares me to a serial killer.'
The star - who is probably one of the most talked about celebrities at the moment - also criticised fame.
Brand joked that he would force Get Him to the Greek producer Judd Apatow to attend his upcoming wedding.
When told that the writer, director and producer told Seacrest he wouldn't travel more than 8 miles to see Perry and Brand wed, the comedian said: 'If I have to drug Judd Apatow and kidnap him he will be at that wedding.
'I will take him hostage and force him to attend.'
Get Him to the Greek is out now in the US. It will be released in the UK on June 25.
