koena mitraShe might have been hitting the headlines lately because of her love life (she’s seeing Turkish pilot and businessman Mete Meral),but koena mitra says she's got a lot of interesting films lined up too! While she needs “time to decide” about the future of her relationship, Koena’s kept herself busy trying to cut across film genres — a horror film, a comedy and an action flick. Excerpts from an interview
What’s keeping you busy?
I have a lot happening in my life. I’m now attending workshops for my film Happy Hours which will go on floors in February. I play the protagonist, a Bengali bar girl. It’s a very challenging role, I had to go de-glam. It is easy for girls to look pretty but it is so very difficult to shed that image and look the way you never thought you would. I am also doing a horror film, a comedy and an action flick. Comedy again is not easy. About 40 per cent of my action film Karna (English) is complete. I am the only Indian girl in the film. Not many girls get to play an action-packed role for which I trained in Hong Kong.

You grabbed eyeballs with your sensuous item number in Ram Gopal Varma’s Road. Are you still open to doing such numbers?
Honestly, item numbers have become boring these days. There are so many of them being filmed that they have lost their wow factor.

How important are big banners for you?
Not much. Not all actors get dream roles. We have to choose from whatever we are offered.

Would you like to settle down now that you have found your Mr Right?
I think it’s too early. I have known Mete only for a year. I am not ready for commitment now and I need more time to decide about our future. I do want this relationship to work out and am quite sure of what he feels about me. But I am not sure of myself. I take time with men.

Any tips on how to get closer to your dream man?
(Laughs) It’s not easy. A girl has to be really smart and very patient. Men want to know everything about the woman they are interested in. They kind of believe that a woman can’t have her private space. Trust me, never devote 100 per cent of your time and space to a man. I don’t give my 100 per cent to any man. There should be an element of mystery left in the relationship to make it more fun.
