Taylor Swift wins historic Grammy for best album

Taylor Swift

LOS ANGELES - Country-pop starlet Taylor Swift, whose true-life tales of teen heartbreak and longing struck a chord with young fans worldwide, made music history on Sunday by becoming the youngest artist to win the coveted Grammy for album of the year.

Swift, who turned 20 in December, ended with four awards after being nominated eight times.

She was overshadowed in the overall count by R&B star Beyonce, who went home with six statuettes -- the most ever won by a woman in a single night.

"I just hope that you know how much this means to me ... that we get to take this back to Nashville," said Swift, whose second album "Fearless" was the biggest-selling release in the United States last year.

In winning album of the year, she broke a record held since 1996 by Alanis Morissette, who was 21 when she won for "Jagged Little Pill," an album with decidedly more adult content.

Swift also won the Grammy for best country album, and a pair of awards for her song "White Horse."

Beyonce, 28, beat her in the song of the year race -- a songwriters award -- with her anthemic hit "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)."

Both were overshadowed for record of the year by surprise winners Kings of Leon with their pop-radio hit "Use Somebody."

Beyonce Knowles wins 4 Grammys in pretelecast show

Beyonce Knowles

LOS ANGELES – Beyonce Knowles , the year's top Grammy nominee with 10 bids, was the early leader Sunday as she won four trophies during the pre-telecast ceremony including best R&B song for her omnipresent hit, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)."

Beyonce Knowles also won best R&B contemporary album for "I Am ... Sasha Fierce," best R&B female vocal for "Single Ladies" and best traditional R&B performance for "At Last," from her movie "Cadillac Records."

The Black Eyed Peas were right behind her with three awards, including best pop vocal album.

Other top nominees were also winners, including Taylor Swift, who was the runner-up for the most Grammy nominations with eight.

"This is my first Grammy you guys! I mean, this is a Grammy," an excited Swift said as she held her first trophy of the night, best female country vocal for "White Horse." She also won best country song for "White Horse" with songwriter Liz Rose.

Lady Gaga was also among double-winners, along with the Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Maxwell.

Maxwell, up for six awards, also won his first Grammys — best R&B male vocal for the ballad "Pretty Wings" and best R&B album for "BLACKsummers' night." The album marked the R&B crooner's return after an absence of eight years from the music business.

"I am a little bit choked up right now. This is my first Grammy, and it means a lot to me," said Maxwell said after picking up his award for "Pretty Wings."

Other notable winners in the pre-telecast ceremony included Michael J. Fox for best spoken world album for "Always Looking Up," and producer and DJ David Guetta, one of the night's top nominees, for best remixed recording, non-classical, for his song "When Love Takes Over."

"I got five nominations so it means that finally DJ culture and dance music is growing in America," said Guetta, who is also nominated for his work with the Black Eyed Peas.

While Beyonce Knowles has won a caseload of Grammys during her career, she hasn't won the prestigious album of the year trophy. There was a possibility that could change Sunday. The superstar was nominated for album of the year for "I Am ... Sasha Fierce," as well as record of the year for "Halo," and song of the year for "Single Ladies."

Swift was also up for the evening's three top awards: "Fearless" was nominated for album of the year, and her song "You Belong With Me" was nominated for both record and song of the year. Swift, whose country album became the most popular album of any genre last year, has captured top awards at just about every awards show she's been at over the last year.

Lady Gaga is another relative newcomer up for top awards. Although she was disqualified from the best new artist category because her first single, "Just Dance," was released last fall and nominated for a Grammy, the Recording Academy more than made up for her exclusion in that category. Like Beyonce Knowles and Swift, she was also up for record and song of the year, for "Poker Face," and album of the year for "The Fame."

Rounding out the album of the year category were the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D.," and the Dave Matthews Band's "Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King." The latter album was the band's first release since the death of founding member and saxophonist LeRoi Moore.

The show was to include a special 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson featuring a video clip he made of "Earth Song" as Usher, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson sing along.

Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli were to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Grammy wins by "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with a special performance of the classic song, which will be made available on iTunes. The proceeds will be donated to Haiti relief.

Beyoncé Knowles found her voice as the star of Destiny's Child, which was shaped by her manager father Mathew and stylist mother Tina. After the group garnered nationwide attention with the departure of three members, DC turned into a hit-making, Grammy-toting trio that became one of the biggest girl groups in music history.

In 2003, Beyoncé parted from the girls (temporarily) to release her debut album, Dangerously in Love, which earned her five Grammys. In 2006, she followed up with B'Day, which she later re-released in Spanish, collaborating with Latin pop star Shakira.

The multi-talented beauty has since graced the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue, expanded her resume as a designer and dazzled as an actress in the movie-musical Dreamgirls. In 2008, she finally married longtime love, hip hop mogul Jay-Z.

Esha Deol : I am really enjoying shooting with my mother ' Hema Malini'

Esha DeolActress Esha Deol is learning new things these days. Esha Deol is not only shooting for her film, Tell Me Oh Khuda, in Rajasthan but is also learning to tie the safa or the traditional Rajasthani headgear.
Indeed, when we caught up with Esha between her shots in Jaisalmer, Esha Deol seemed more than at home in the desert state, dressed like a pukka Rajasthani. “I love this Rajasthani attire so much that I have even ordered for around five such kurtas and some safas. I want to gift such pagris to my loved ones in Mumbai. I am even learning how to tie the safa and I would definitely try it on my sister and friends in Mumbai,” says Esha referring to her look in the film.

The actor has been in Rajasthan, shooting in parts of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer for the film with her mom, Hema Malini and other actors including Vinod Khanna, Sudhanshu Pandey and Madhu. Though, both mother and daughter have restrained from talking to the media but JT caught up with them while they were shooting in Kala Doongar mandir, 20 kilometers from Jaisalmer. “The film is divided in four parts and we are shooting one entire sequence in Rajasthan, simply because nothing can match the picturesque locations of the place and it is just perfect for the movie,” shares Esha.

Esha Deol adds that for the past two years she has been preparing herself for this movie. “I am not even signing any new movie right now, as I don’t want my attention to get diverted from this film.”
Esha Deol also says that she’s got the opportunity to spend some quality time with her mother after a long time because of this film. “I am really enjoying shooting with my mother and it is a great learning experience too. We hardly get to spend time together because of her busy schedule otherwise,” says Esha.

The actress Esha Deol says that she’s a complete daddy’s girl. “I am just like my father and I love his simplicity. Even I believe in simple living and in concentrating just on my work,” she signs off.

Katie Price to take a dip in holy river Ganga?

Katie PriceBritish celebrity Katie Price reportedly has shown a interest in spiritual trip to holy river Ganga in India.

According to reports, Katie (Katrina Amy Alexandria Alexis Infield Price), 31, has shown interest in taking a dip in Ganga, spiritual visit to India, evolving a new persona through spiritualism, cleansing her soul, finding her true self, visiting holy sites and temples of India, and finding inner peace. Born in Brighton (United Kingdom), she is an actress-author-media personality-model-producer-songwriter and a former toples$ model.

According to a belief, all sins/evils committed by the Mela pilgrims and their ancestors back to the 88th generation will be washed away forever by a dip in Ganga during these dates and that they will achieve salvation and emerge regenerated and healed. Its observance is believed to go back to ancient Vedic period and the legend of “Churning of the Ocean” is associated with it.

Termed as biggest spiritual gathering on earth, Kumbh Mela (pot-fete) is being held from January 14 (Makarsankranti) to April 28 (Vaisakh Aadhimaas Purnima) and includes 11 bathing dates in between, at Haridwar, where fast-flowing Ganga enters the plains from Himalaya. Held four times every twelve years and rotating among Allahabad, Nasik, Haridwar, and Ujjain (all in India); this Mela takes place when the planet Jupiter enters Aquarius and Sun enters Aries.
